Hungary Ride

Day 0 – Arrival

After arrival transfer to Bugac. Early evening small carriage drive to the heart of Bugac puszta, where you will see traditional Hungarian animals, like grey cattles and rackas (a Hungarian breed of sheep), and the Kisbér Stud of Bugac. Dinner at the Karikás Csárda. Overnight in Bugac Hunting Lodge.

Day 1 – A stunning ride in Bugac and the countryside

Starting the day in the National Park. You have a short visit in the Shepherds Museum, then we ride in beautiful scenery: we ride across the breathtaking countryside of Bugac, riding on wide meadows and national forests. Your lunch will be served in a friendly riding inn, called Gedeon-tanya. You can taste the traditional Hungarian dish, goulash from Hungarian grey cattle. During the afternoon you ride through nice vineyards, and you can even see some of the local village life. Upon arrival, we leave the horses behind and drive to Vargatanya. This traditional, but at the same time high quality inn offers great wellness facilities; we recommend to test it! The buffet dinner will be served along gypsy music.

Day 2 – Second day ride +  Horse Show

With a short drive we get back to our horses to spend another beautiful day riding in the Kiskunság National Park. Both horses and riders have a nice rest during lunchtime at Somodi Tanya, where you will be indulged with a nice lunch plate, with homemade sausage, cheese and other local goodies. You arrive to Vargatanya on horseback, but the equine program doesn’t finish here; you will see a traditional Hungarian Horse Show, where wranglers are cracking the whip, making their horse sit and lie down, and finally a puszta-five (one horsemen direct five horses.) After the show we enjoy a nice grill dinner.

Day 3 – Hidden treasures of the Kiskunság National Park

Leaving Vargatanya behind you will ride about 3,5 hours through beautiful parts of the Kiskunság National Park. National Park’s rangers are also joining the ride to ensure we discover the most hidden and scenic parts of the area. This day, we do our ride all in one breath, with just a short break on the way. We spend our late lunch upon arrival Sarlóspuszta Club Hotel, where both the horses and ourselves spend the rest of the day and the night.

Day 4 – SPA, Budapest, Balaton… Relax

After breakfast we drive to Budapest to have a unique SPA experience in Széchenyi Thermal Bath. Following a short sightseeing (you will see Hősök tere and the Buda Castle). We spend our lunch in Budapest, than you can sit back and relax in the bus for about one hour, ‘till we reach our next riding destination: the area of Lake Balaton. Afternoon you can relax at the lakeshore of Lake Balaton and in the SPA of Hotel Azúr Prémium. The exclusive wellness center of the hotel offers a 12-element saunapark including traditional and infrared saunas, steam bath, aroma, salt and ice chamber, adventure shower and more with panoramic view of the Lake.

Day 5 – Ride across the vineyards of Balaton Upland

We start the day with a stunning ferry ride crossing Lake Balaton from the south to the north shore. We meet our horses in Tihany again. The next 3 days we will ride along the Balaton Upland National Park. Today’s ride takes us from Tihany to Köveskál. Balaton Upland being an outstanding vine growing area, we stop at a winery to spend our lunch while enjoying the beautiful view on lake Balaton. Arriving to Káli Art Inn, feels like arriving home.

Day 6 – In the heart of the Balaton Upland National Park

Today we ride in the western part of Balaton Upland National Park, in the Tapolca Basin, through beautiful and varied landscape. It’s geological values are the volcanic hills and unique geological formations of volcanic origin. Riding from Köveskál to Nemesvita, Equital Horse Farm.

Day 7 – Ride in the age of the knights – Arrival to Sümeg Castle

Full day ride from Nemesvita to Sümeg. Sümeg Castle is one of Hungary’s most beautiful medieval forts that have survived in relatively good condition. Standing on its own hill the castle dominates the surrounding area. We overnight in a 4 star hotel at the feet of the castle, but travel back in time in the evening as we are invited to see a knight tournament, followed by a real medieval feast.

Day 8 – Farewell

After a week of adventures, it’s time to say goodbye. Thanks for coming to our ride and letting us show you some of our beautiful homeland, and letting us share our culture, gastronomy and first of all our horses and a beautiful ride with you! We drive back together to Budapest, and hope to see you soon!
